The device was developed to break through disturbed/ compacted soil layers, so that rain and surface water can find a path to the groundwater table in the deeper soil structure. When heavy equipment (such as excavators, trucks, etc.) are used during work activities, the upper layers are compacted: the heavy weight of the equipment compresses the soil.
